Stuck on Stupid or How Not to Act at Arlington Cemetery (UPDATED)
Meet Lindsey Stone, a self-proclaimed douchebag. See that picture? She thinks it’s hilarious because she’s being her douche bag self. Of course, she’s at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers, and she thinks that doing what she’s doing is like smoking under a “No Smoking” sign.
Needless to say, her picture hasn't turned out well for her. As of yesterday she was employed at...
LIFE, Living Independently Forever, Inc., is a non profit organization that provdes supported independent living for adults with disabilities within its condominium communities on Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
And as of this morning, they have this disclaimer up on their Facebook page....along with 4,000+ messages.
It has come to our attention that a member of LIFE staff has posted a photo on a personal facebook page that has upset others. This photo in no way reflects the opinions of LIFE staff members and/or anyone affiliated with our organization. We sincerely apologize for any offense that the photo may have caused and we are drafting an official apology to be released in the morning.
I sent it to a buddy of mine last night who is from Massachusetts (Lindsey here is from Plymouth Mass), and he went ballistic when he saw it. He talked about the "profound" experience when he took his two young boys there earlier in the year. Like many of you, I have friends buried there, and I'd like to imagine one in particular (SSG Chuck Burton) who is probably trying to figure out how he can best haunt Ms Stone. I can't even fathom what this young lady was thinking.
I found it ironic that on a week when we celebrate Thanksgiving, that we have a moron from the town the Pilgrims landed in being disrespectful to our honored dead. Just offensive on a level I can't even imagine. I'm guessing she won't be thankful for her job come Thursday morning, but I guess we can wait for the press release.
UPDATE: LIFE has now issued its apology:
On Nov. 19 at approximately 6 p.m., we became aware that one of our employees had posted an offensive, inappropriate photograph on her personal Facebook page. The photo was taken at a national historic site in October by a fellow employee during a trip to Washington, D.C. attended by 40 residents and eight staff. The photo has since been removed from Facebook, and both employees have been placed on unpaid leave pending the results of an internal investigation. This photograph in no way reflects the opinions or values of the LIFE organization, which holds our nation’s veterans in the highest regard. We are proud to have veterans serving on our staff and board of trustees, and we value their service. The men and women who have selflessly fought and sacrificed their lives to protect the rights and lives of Americans deserve our utmost respect and gratitude. We are acutely aware that this photo has done a disservice to veterans and we are deeply saddened that it was taken and shared in a public medium.
