It’s Tommy’s Turn Again

Rudyard Kipling, author of the poem "Tommy"
Thanks to the Folks at Hot Air and Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit this story has already received some attention but it needs the widest possible coverage for it proves once again that Rudyard Kipling’s poem Tommy continues to be relevant, particularly the passage
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck him out, the brute!" But it's "Saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot; An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please; An' Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool -- you bet that Tommy sees!A story in the Times-Online details the response of a number of British soldiers to the actions of their government when it comes to first to the quality of the equipment to be used by the British soliders and then later to proposed cuts in the compensation of those that are wounded. These are our comrades. We’ve fought by their side since the trenches of WW I. I know firsthand the response of the American veteran and the American people when misguided policy decisions were contemplated. I only hope the British people are of the same spirit and sense of compassion toward their wounded as Americans are for our wounded warriors. Go read the article, it tells the story better than I ever could. I know we can’t do much to help our British comrades except let our outrage be known. Tommy has served his country well as has GI Joe. They have stood side by side in war and peace for almost a century now. I hope they at least know that we have not forgotten them.

The timelessness of Kipling
The timelessness of Kipling never ceases to amaze me. No well read grunt should have a Kipling gap in their library.

A Kipling Gap? I think I
A Kipling Gap? I think I like that. Although it tends to conure an image of children wearing expensive clothing from Bombay. And kids should never wear a pth helmet.
But agreed, Kipling does rock. I prefer "IF" to Tommy however.
