Losing our will to win?
November 30th, 2009 by Old Trooper
Maybe citizens have, but our military hasn't.
Over the last several weeks I have contemplated putting pen to paper, or more ccurately, keyboard to computer, and jot down some thoughts.
I have been observing a dangerous trend happening all around us. It appears that our nation is losing it’s will to win. Sme may ask; win what? That can be answered by looking to the past. During WWII; would a prisoner getting a fat lip be considered an offense worthy of NJP or courts-martial? Would it be a case of taking the word of said prisoner as to how it happened over our own warriors, when such action, as lying, is part of the MO of our enemies? An enemy known for treating their prisoners to such wonderful treatment as be-heading, dis-embowelment, rape, etc.? We have watched as these things have occurred in many videos that have been seen around the world; and yet we sacrifice our own to political correctness.
Are we more concerned about losing diversity than the murder and wounding of un-armed troops at Ft. Hood, as a General stated recently? People more concerned with not looking discriminatory to the point of not acting on blatant signs of someone becoming more than a sympathizer with the goals of our enemy and becoming a participant in our enemy’s war against us? Afraid to call the attack what it is: terrorism.
Why do we have those that are willing to call some of our warriors “muderers” without having any of the details of the incident? That are content with a 3 month wait for a request for more troops, yet those same people wouldn’t give the previous President less time for a similar request in Iraq? Those same people were looking for a way to lose and de-moralize the troops with calls of “the war being lost”. Why the urgency to lose?
We have people giving our enemies more rights than what they are afforded by international treaty, including civilian trials with all the bells and whistles that our own citizens strive for. Why? We have people willing to give our enemies and the world access to our techniques and processes for intelligence gathering and interrogation processes. Letting the entire world know exactly how far we will go in interrogating prisoners, so they can rest assurred that they can train to resist those techniques and anything else is a hollow threat. This emboldens our enemies and shows weakness on our part.
Several people have suggested that we have no stated goals in Afghanistan and have no idea what victory there will be. I say rubbish. The military’s job is to make our enemy capitulate, either through unconditional surrender, as was done in the past, or to make them combat ineffective. One person had pointed out that you can’t kill every terrrorist in Afghanistan. That’s a no-brainer, since at no time in the last 3 centuries was that ever the stated or achieved goal of a military operation. What usually happens? Look back and notice that victory was achieved through either surrender or reducing their war making ability to the point of ineffectiveness.
If we continue down this path we will not only show that we have lost our will to win, but that we are willing to surrender our country.
Our warriors haven’t lost their will; maybe the rest of the country should learn from them?

The mission in Afghanistan
The mission in Afghanistan would have more support from citizen and soldier alike if we were there for the stated purpose. Al Qaeda is not there.....why are we expending our blood and treasure on the various Taliban groups?
It's not the 'will to win' that's lacking....it's the will to be smarter not harder.

Refresh my memory there,
Refresh my memory there, Jeff. Where was it that Al Qaeda was based?
Oh, that's right. It was Afghanistan where the Taliban had given them sanctuary. We leave the Taliban in power, the same will happen again. It's that simple.

If our beef is with Al Qaeda,
If our beef is with Al Qaeda, the vermin that started this. Then I would agree on continuing to kill them until the give up the fight or there is not enough left to fight. But that has nothing to do with Iraq or Afghanistan. The terrorist come from Saudi Arabia and countries around the world. Afghanistan is a poor a country, fragmented politically and geographically it is a breeding ground for any kind of lawlessness. There are several countries in Africa, Somalia, being one of them in the same boat. Even IF we could fix Afghanistan Al Qaeda will just move to another lawless country to set up their training camp. Our only choice is to find them and kill them one by one(of course 100 at a time would be better). I am sure the rest of the world would be happy to help us if we do the heavy lifting.

Jeff and Jim: While
Jeff and Jim: While understand where you are coming from, I have to point out a couple of things. Back in 2001, we were attacked by AQ; everyone knows that. The Taliban was in control of most of A-stan. They were providing training facilities and a base of operations for AQ to work out of. The Taliban refused to give up the AQ terrorists in A-stan, so we dent in and removed the Taliban from power. The Taliban then moved their operations across the border into Pakistan. We were given little help from the Pakistan government in going into that region of their country to clean out the remnants (that's where the whole "making them combat ineffective" comes in). That has allowed the Taliban and AQ operatives to re-build in relative safety. only lately have the Pakis become interested in doing away with the Taliban, because the Taliban wasn't content on just training in the lawless region, nope, they got ambitious and tried to bring down the Pakistan government.
In essence; the Taliban is like a cancer, if left un-checked and un-treated, it spreads and destroys everything it touches. Don't believe me? Ask any of the women and little girls that had acid thrown on them for daring to go to school. Ask the Buddhists that watched staues that were carved into the cliffs hundreds, or a thousand, of years ago and were destroyed by the Taliban. If we "just left", we would leave a vacuum that would be immediately filled by the Taliban and the nation would be back where they were 8 years ago and AQ, along with any other terrorist organization, would be back in business with training facilities and headquarters to plan more coordinated attacks against not only us, but others around the world.
Do you want that? I know I don't.

I agree with Old Trooper. We
I agree with Old Trooper. We need to regain our Love for OUR Country, and put our needs first. Enough pussyfooting around and giving the same rights to terrorists, EPWs (and illegal aliens). War is hell, and we have to protect Americans and our way of life. It's time to wake up before it's too late.

If you're still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you'll know which is right for you.

I take sides regarding the points and advices you give on your article. They will be want by persons looking to drop some weight or for people expecting just a much better wellness. Working in the well being and diet regime field myself, after critiquing quite a few diet regime plans, I had to acknowledge that the fat burning furnace diet plan, taking into consideration its price level, its effectiveness and how simple it is to apply and stick to is really one of the ideal diet plan plans obtainable on the marketplace at this time.

Apple has again built a product that looks good and feels great in the hand with a well-known user interface, borrowed from the iPod touch and the iPhone, it is perfectly suited to the big screen. My 1st impressions of the iPad are very positive, the new iPad whizzes along, opening applications, resizing web pages, and zooming in and out of maps almost instantaneously. I´m still waiting to test more, but the first tests are amazing. Regards, King Bocci
